Migratory destination for thousands of wild swans

 

Lake Hyoko in Niigata Prefecture is a major winter destination for swans. Thousands of swans come across from Siberia each year and the lake is home to 5,000–6,000 birds during peak season. Lake Hyoko is a carefully protected habit for waterfowl, and during the season, you can expect to see mute swans, tundra swans, and whooper swans, among others.

When to go: October through March
